How To Spring Clean Your Cushions?

You probably bought cushions to make your living room more comfortable and stylish, but after a while, it’s easy for dirt, oils, pet fur and other things to build up.  The result is an unpleasant smell that will only get worse with time.  Fortunately, we shall look into ways to spring clean your cushions back to looking, and more importantly, smelling fresh again! When cleaning your cushions, be sure to remove the cover to avoid damaging the inner cushion’s foam, feather, or fibre

Why Spring?

Spring is a great time to clean your cushions because the weather is getting warmer, and you can open up all of your windows to let in some fresh air. In addition, the days are getting longer, so you have more time to complete this task.

Why clean instead of buying new cushions?

Cleaning your old cushions might not seem like the most glamorous task in the world, but it’s a lot better than spending money on new ones. Not to mention, it’s a lot more environmentally friendly!

When you buy new cushions, they usually come from overseas, which means they have to travel a long way before they reach your home. This process results in high levels of CO2 emissions, so by cleaning your old cushions instead of buying new ones, you’re helping to reduce your carbon footprint.

Additionally, if you choose to replace your old cushions, they can be recycled and turned into things like insulation for houses or even new cushions. So, even if you decide it is time for some new cushion, you can still do your bit to help the environment!

Cleaning your existing cushions is relatively straightforward, and you won’t need any special equipment. Instead, you can just use a vacuum cleaner, laundry detergent, water and an old toothbrush to get the job done effectively.

Cleaning process

Vacuum the surface of the cushion thoroughly before proceeding with any other steps. This will remove any loose dirt or dust and make it easier to clean the cushion. Be sure to vacuum the cushion thoroughly and not miss out on any spots. It is also worth turning the cushion inside out and vacuuming the inside as dirt can also accumulate there.

Once you have completed vacuuming, put on some rubber gloves to protect your hands from any stains that might be present on the cushion. Next, fill a bucket with warm water and add some laundry detergent. Stir this mixture thoroughly so that it is nice and bubbly.

Now all you need to do is brush this mixture onto the cushion, making sure that you cover every inch of it thoroughly. Do not rinse the cushion with any water after brushing, but leave it to dry naturally. This will ensure that all the dirt and stains are correctly removed from your cushion!

To get rid of any remaining odours from the cushion, sprinkle some baking soda on it and leave for an hour or two. This will absorb any smells that might be present and will leave your cushion smelling fresh once more!

Alternatively, if you have a wet-dry vacuum cleaner at home, then you can just run this over the surface of your cushion. This will pick up any loose dirt and pet fur without you having to do much work at all! After the hour has passed, just vacuum it up again, and everything should look perfect once more.

If any stubborn stains aren’t removed after following this process, you can try out some steel wool to get rid of them. This will not be pleasant because it can scratch the surface of your cushion but getting rid of the stains is an essential part of keeping your cushions looking clean and fresh!
